Notes from The Anxious Generation:
Ability to stay on one train of thought is hindered. Cell phone causes user to have many “off ramps.”
Staying on one road, one task, is a feature of maturity and a sign of good executive function.
You people get hundreds of notifications per day, rarely have 5-10 minutes of uninterrupted thought.
Phone-based life pushes downward on the Z-axis towards closeness. This creates spiritual harm, in adults and children; whom believe their mental health is fine.
Society degradation if people are spending more time below the Z-axis (divinity).
Nature causes Being to experience “awe”, an emotion linked to spiritual practices. A walk in natural setting can cause self-transcendence.
Awe in nature is valuable to Gen Z because it counteracts the anxiety and self consciousness caused by phone-based childhood.
“God shaped hole” in every heart; many people looking for meaning, connection and spiritual elevation. Phone-based life fills this hole with trivial and degrading content.
The ancients advised us to be more deliberate in choosing what we expose ourselves to.
This book allows one to realize that they have been duped for a cellular device. The human race is now spending most of their time looking at nothing of importance. This is what the book highlights. This will change. I will make it so.
